Ishihara Test (Color Blind Health Test) : The Most Frequently Used Color Blind Test Color blindness (colorblindness) or color vision deficiency(colorvisiondeficiency) occurs when cone cells that have this pigment lose sensitivity in perceiving the color spectrum. As a result, the human eye loses its ability to see or distinguish colors.
Most of the causes of color blindness are a result of defects in genes that make up pigments in cone cells. Therefore, color blindness is generally passed on to later offspring, especially in boys. However, color blindness can also be caused by diseases, drugs, and certain chemicals.
Actually, a diagnosis of color blindness can be established through several methods, such as Ishihara Test, Cambridge Color Test, Anomaloscope, Pseudoisochromatic HRR Color Test , etc. However, the most widely used color blind test until now is the Ishihara Test.
The Ishihara test was first designed by Dr. ShinobuIshihara in 1917. The Ishihara test is very good at diagnosing patients with red-green color blindness. The design of the Ishihara Test allows us to be able to do this color blind test easily. Coupled with a good level of test accuracy, the Ishihara Test is the most widely used in the world.
Simply put, the test consists of a series of colored circles called Ishihara Plate. Each circle is formed from a collection of points that have different colors and sizes. The points on IshiharaPlate are arranged so that they form an image (number or letter) that is easily visible to people with normal eyes but is difficult to recognize by people who are color blind.
During the test, the examiner should only give the patient 3 seconds to answer. Patients should not touch or follow the flow of the image using their fingers. In addition, IshiharaPlate should be given randomly to patients.
Color-blind tests should be done by everyone. Unconscious color blindness can be risky for sufferers while living their daily lives.
