This factor is caused by several things, including:

The lack of interest of the Indonesian people to undergo cataract surgery in Indonesia. Insufficient availability of sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. Inadequate availability of eye hospital facilities and infrastructure. Based on this background, SMEC presents a vision and mission:

Eye Health Service Center “Sumatra Eye Center (SMEC) was inaugurated on March 4, 2006 in Medan by the Mayor of Medan (at that time Drs. H. Abdillah, Ak.MBA).

The success and reputation of SMEC has spread to various regions outside Medan. Since its inauguration in 2004, SMEC has branches in various other major cities; Medan, Balikpapan, Pekanbaru, Kabanjahe, Samarinda, Jakarta, Manado, Malang, Tebing Tinggi, Langsa, Tebet, Semarang, Gorontalo, Ambon, Lampung, Bekasi, Langowan, Bontang, Purwakarta, Cikarang, Kudus, Lubuk Pakam, Siantar , Tanjung Pinang, Mojokerto, Sidoarjo, Yogyakarta.
